The 2024 Hughes & Hughes Chardonnay is a beautifully balanced cool-climate Chardonnay that showcases the diversity of Tasmania, with fruit sourced predominantly from the Derwent Valley, alongside smaller parcels from the Coal River Valley and North West Coast. Whole-bunch pressed and wild fermented in French oak (15% new), the wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation and six months on lees, creating impressive texture while retaining freshness. The nose is bright and expressive, offering aromas of white peach, grapefruit and lemon curd layered with flint, almond and subtle brioche.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with vibrant natural acidity, a creamy texture and beautifully integrated oak. Flavours of citrus, white stone fruit and hazelnut are complemented by a fine mineral line, leading to a long, fresh finish with excellent balance and precision. Elegant yet generously textured, this is a classic Tasmanian Chardonnay with both immediate appeal and the potential to develop further in bottle.
