The 2024 Dalrymple Vineyards Coal River Valley Single Site Pinot Noir is a refined and expressive cool-climate Pinot Noir from Tasmania’s Coal River Valley. The region’s combination of plentiful sunshine, low rainfall and drying winds helps produce Pinot Noir with excellent fruit concentration while retaining bright natural acidity. The 2024 vintage shows complex aromas of spiced plum, ripe tamarillo and cranberry, layered with alluring savoury notes, dark spice and delicate blue florals.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied, supple and beautifully composed, with fresh plum fruit providing a generous and seductive entry. Suave tannins and natural acidity bring balance and structure, while dark spice and floral complexity develop through the mid-palate before a long, subtle and elegant finish. The fruit was hand-picked with 20% whole bunches included in fermentation, followed by 10 months in French oak barriques, including 30% new oak, adding texture and complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit.
Ben's Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding choice for Pinot Noir lovers wanting to explore the distinctive character of Tasmania’s Coal River Valley through a serious single-site wine. Compared with Dalrymple’s broader Tasmanian Pinot Noir, this bottling offers greater vineyard definition, depth and savoury complexity while retaining the freshness and elegance that make Tasmanian Pinot Noir so appealing. Enjoy now with some air or cellar over the next 5–8+ years. Pair with roast duck, butterflied poussin, mushroom dishes, pork tenderloin or roasted vegetables with Asian spices.
