The 2024 Boekenhoutskloof The Chocolate Block is a rich and structured red blend from Swartland, South Africa, led by Syrah with Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and a small amount of Viognier. The nose is intense with blackberry, blueberry and ripe bramble, layered with black olive, floral notes, white pepper and coriander seed.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with juicy dark fruit, lively acidity and smooth, velvety tannins. Whole-berry fermentation followed by 12–14 months in seasoned French oak adds savoury complexity, with red liquorice, cherry tobacco, exotic spice and pepper carrying through the long, dry finish.
