The 2024 Black Estate Skypunch Pinot Gris is a distinctive single-vineyard white from Waipara Valley in North Canterbury. Grown on clay soils with calcium carbonate deposits, it shows preserved lemon, fresh pear and apricot alongside white peach, almond, ginger, cardamom and subtle flinty notes.
On the palate, it is dry, structured and vibrant, with bright acidity balancing ripe orchard and stone fruit. A distinctive saline tension brings freshness and length, while gentle spice and vanilla add complexity. The grapes were hand harvested and whole-bunch pressed before natural fermentation in seasoned 500-litre puncheons, followed by seven months on lees. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
