The 2023 Immich-Batterieberg DETONATION Riesling Mosel is a beautifully expressive dry Riesling from the historic Immich-Batterieberg estate in the Mosel. Crafted by Gernot Kollmann, the wine is a selection from organically farmed vineyards in Enkirch, Briedel and Dhron, with many vines over 40 years old, rooted in steep slate soils. Naturally fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured on gross lees in a combination of stainless steel and traditional oak casks, it captures the estate's hallmark balance of power and finesse. The nose is vibrant and complex, revealing ripe peach, orange zest and citrus blossom layered with flint, wild herbs and pronounced slate minerality. Awarded 93 points by James Suckling and 92 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, it is an outstanding introduction to the Immich-Batterieberg range.
On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied with crystalline acidity, impressive concentration and remarkable mineral tension. Flavours of ripe citrus, stone fruit and preserved lemon are complemented by a saline, chalky backbone, leading to a long, dry finish with exceptional precision and freshness. Elegant yet intensely characterful, it is a quintessential Mosel Riesling that beautifully reflects the purity of its slate-rich terroir.
