The 2023 Domaine Henri Germain Meursault 1er Cru Charmes is an outstanding Chardonnay from the renowned Charmes Premier Cru vineyard in Meursault, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. Domaine Henri Germain farms several parcels across both the upper and lower sections of Charmes, with vines ranging from 25 to 40 years old. Fermented entirely in French oak with only 20–25% new barrels and aged for at least 18 months without lees stirring, the wine opens with elegant aromas of white peach, lemon zest and citrus blossom, complemented by white flowers, toasted hazelnut and a distinctive chalky mineral character.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with vibrant acidity, a silky texture and remarkable precision. Flavours of ripe orchard fruit, citrus and subtle stone fruit are layered with delicate oak and a saline mineral core, leading to a long, refined finish. Richly textured yet beautifully focused, this is a classic Meursault that combines generosity with exceptional freshness and finesse.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding choice for lovers of premium white Burgundy with depth, elegance and impressive ageing potential. Pair it with lobster, grilled scallops, roast chicken in a cream sauce, turbot or aged Comté. While already beautifully balanced, it is best enjoyed from 2028 onwards and will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 15–20 years.
