The 2023 Domaine du Salut Graves Rouge is an organic Bordeaux from the historic Graves region, produced by Aurélia and Frédéric, who have transformed the estate into a modern, environmentally conscious vineyard since taking over in 2015. Grown on the sandy-gravel soils of the Cérons plateau, the wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and a small portion of Malbec. Vinified without oak and aged in stainless steel and cement tanks, the focus is firmly on purity of fruit, freshness and drinkability.
The nose reveals blackberry, plum and cassis alongside hints of violet, black pepper and subtle spice. The palate is supple and rounded, combining ripe dark fruit with soft tannins and fresh acidity. Notes of red berries and gentle savoury complexity carry through a smooth, harmonious finish. The absence of oak allows the fruit and terroir to shine, resulting in a fresh and approachable expression of Graves.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A charming, easy-drinking Bordeaux that offers excellent value and authenticity. Fresh, balanced and highly versatile, it pairs beautifully with roast pork, grilled lamb, beef dishes, lasagne and semi-hard cheeses. Enjoy now and over the next 3–5 years while its vibrant fruit and youthful energy are at their peak.
