The 2023 Black Estate Home Pinot Noir is a distinctive single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Waipara Valley in North Canterbury. Grown on calcareous clay soils, it shows raspberry, red cherry and plum alongside liquorice, thyme, subtle florals and earthy savoury notes.
On the palate, it is concentrated and finely structured, with a silky texture, delicate acidity and polished tannins supporting juicy red fruit. The grapes were hand harvested and fully destemmed, retaining a high proportion of whole berries, before fermentation with vineyard-derived yeast. The wine spent nine months in seasoned French oak barrels with no new oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
