The 2023 Bessin-Tremblay Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is an exceptional Chardonnay from the prestigious Valmur Grand Cru vineyard in Chablis, Burgundy. Sourced from more than 50-year-old vines rooted in classic Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils, the wine is hand-harvested, fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, then aged on fine lees for around 18 months. It opens with refined aromas of pear, white peach and lemon zest, complemented by white flowers, chalky minerality and subtle pastry notes.
On the palate, it is full-bodied with vibrant acidity and remarkable precision. Layers of citrus, orchard fruit and ripe stone fruit are balanced by a saline mineral core, leading to a long, focused finish. Careful lees ageing and restrained oak contribute texture and complexity while allowing the purity and energy of the Valmur terroir to shine through.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding choice for collectors and lovers of world-class Chablis. Pair it with oysters, lobster, scallops, grilled turbot or aged Comté. While already impressive, it is best enjoyed from2028 onwards and will continue to develop beautifully over the next 15–20 years.
