The 2023 Bachelet-Monnot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts is a beautifully poised Chardonnay from the renowned Les Referts Premier Cru vineyard in Puligny-Montrachet, Burgundy. Situated at the foot of the slope beside Meursault, this site is planted with around 60-year-old vines in deep clay-limestone soils, producing wines that combine richness with the hallmark precision of Puligny. The nose is elegant and expressive, revealing aromas of white peach, lemon zest and green apple, complemented by white flowers, flint and subtle hazelnut notes.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with vibrant acidity and a finely textured mouthfeel. Layers of citrus, ripe orchard fruit and gentle stone fruit are framed by chalky minerality and discreet French oak, leading to a long, focused finish. Fermented and matured in 350-litre French oak barrels without bâtonnage, followed by time in stainless steel, the wine retains exceptional purity, freshness and balance.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding choice for lovers of classic white Burgundy with depth, elegance and mineral precision. Pair it with lobster, scallops, grilled turbot, roast chicken in a cream sauce or aged Comté. While already beautifully balanced, it is best enjoyed from 2026 onwards and will continue to develop gracefully over the next 10–15 years.
