The 2023 Bachelet-Monnot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières is an outstanding Chardonnay from the renowned Les Folatières Premier Cru vineyard in Puligny-Montrachet, Burgundy. Sourced from 50-year-old vines in the upper section of the vineyard near La Truffière, where shallow soils sit over pure chalk, the wine is fermented and matured for 12 months in 350-litre French oak barrels without bâtonnage, followed by six months in stainless steel. The nose is elegant and mineral, offering aromas of lemon zest, white peach and green apple, layered with white flowers, flint and subtle toasted notes.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with vibrant acidity, a finely textured mouthfeel and exceptional precision. Flavours of citrus, orchard fruit and ripe stone fruit are supported by chalky minerality and discreet oak, leading to a long, focused finish. The high-altitude vineyard and limestone-rich soils give the wine remarkable tension and purity, making it one of the standout Premier Crus of Puligny-Montrachet.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding choice for lovers of classic white Burgundy with finesse, mineral precision and excellent ageing potential. Pair it with lobster, scallops, grilled turbot, roast chicken in a cream sauce or aged Comté. While already beautifully balanced, it is best enjoyed from2027 onwards and will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 12–15 years.
