The 2022 Dormilona Clayface Chenin Blanc is a limited-production, skin-contact Chenin Blanc from Margaret River, Western Australia. Hand-harvested fruit from the Yungarra Vineyard is fermented entirely in Italian terracotta amphora, giving the wine a distinctive textural style. The nose shows ripe pear, citrus and stone fruit with subtle floral, earthy and savoury notes.
On the palate, it is bright and textured with lively acidity and gentle phenolic grip. The fruit spends a month fermenting on skins before being pressed back into amphora to settle, adding depth and structure without oak influence. Only 25 cases were produced, with each bottle individually numbered.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Chenin Blanc drinkers exploring distinctive Australian skin-contact wines with freshness, texture and savoury complexity. Enjoy with grilled prawns, roast chicken, charred vegetables, seafood, antipasto or firm cheeses.
