The 2022 Cuilleron Syrah 'Ripa Sinistra' IGP is a striking 100% Syrah from the historic hillsides of Seyssuel on the left bank of the Rhône, directly opposite Côte-Rôtie. First planted by the Romans and replanted in 1996, these steep quartz-schist slopes produce wines of exceptional depth and minerality. Hand-harvested fruit is partially destemmed, fermented with native yeasts and matured for 18 months in French oak barriques, creating a wine of remarkable structure and finesse. The nose is intense and expressive, revealing ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum layered with smoked meat, black pepper, violet and crushed stone.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with silky tannins, vibrant acidity and impressive mineral tension. Concentrated dark fruit is complemented by savoury spice, smoky nuances and a saline edge, leading to a long, refined finish with exceptional balance and persistence. Powerful yet elegant, this is a superb Northern Rhône Syrah that reflects both the character of Seyssuel and Yves Cuilleron's meticulous winemaking.
