The 2022 Clos Mogador Com Tu is a remarkable single-village Garnacha from La Figuera in Montsant, created by René and Christian Barbier of the legendary Clos Mogador estate. Sourced from three tiny parcels of 50–80-year-old Garnacha vines planted at 550–600 metres altitude on limestone and clay soils, Com Tu was conceived to showcase the unique character of La Figuera, a cooler, higher-altitude enclave neighbouring Priorat. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in large seasoned oak foudres and cement, the wine emphasises purity, elegance and terroir expression.
The nose is intensely aromatic, revealing wild raspberry, red cherry and strawberry alongside orange peel, violet, rose petal and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is beautifully poised and energetic, combining vibrant red fruit with silky tannins, bright acidity and a distinctive mineral freshness. Notes of thyme, rosemary, liquorice and subtle spice emerge through a long, savoury finish. Decanter praised the 2022 for its floral aromatics, juicy cherry fruit and expressive Garnacha character, while the estate notes that the wine's hallmark orange-citrus and floral notes are a defining feature of Garnacha from La Figuera.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A beautifully refined Spanish Garnacha that combines the perfume and elegance of fine Pinot Noir with the generosity and warmth of Mediterranean Grenache. Fresh, floral and remarkably expressive, it pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck, chargrilled vegetables, Iberian pork, mushroom dishes and Mediterranean cuisine. Enjoy now with a short decant, or cellar through 2035–2040 as it develops greater savoury complexity and nuance.
