The 2020 JC’s Own Freedtyler Dry White is an unconventional Barossa and Adelaide Hills white blend created by Jaysen Collins under his JC’s Own project label. Made from a mix of old-vine Chenin Blanc and Crouchen from Angaston, alongside Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, the wine reflects a deliberately textural and experimental approach inspired by Rhône whites and lo-fi winemaking.
The nose is highly expressive and savoury, showing bruised apple, citrus peel and orchard fruit layered with hay, wild herbs, chalky lees notes and gentle oxidative complexity. There is a waxy, slightly funky edge balanced by freshness and aromatic lift, giving the wine a distinctly artisanal personality.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a creamy, textured mouthfeel built from skin contact, lees ageing and spontaneous fermentation in old barriques. Citrus, stone fruit and savoury spice are supported by bright acidity and a lightly grippy finish, creating a wine that feels broad, energetic and highly individual. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered, adding further texture and complexity.
