The 2019 Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet is a generous, textured 100% Chardonnay from Puligny-Montrachet in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, offering the appellation’s floral elegance alongside the richness of the vintage. The Carillon family’s winemaking roots in the village date back to 1520, giving Jacques a remarkable connection to the vineyards he farms. This village cuvée draws on seven lieux-dits covering approximately 2.7 hectares, bringing together parcels from different parts of Puligny. The 2019 was fermented and aged for 12 months in barrels with approximately 15% new oak, followed by six months in tank, developing depth and texture while allowing the individual parcels to come together.
The 2019 offers pear, apple, peach, orange zest and white flowers, complemented by pastry cream, subtle hazelnut and gentle oak spice. This is a fuller, more enveloping expression of Puligny, with lively acidity providing balance beneath its generous fruit. William Kelley awarded an early assessment of 89–91 Points, highlighting its concentration, flavour and fragrant finish. Julia Harding MW awarded 16.5/20, praising its creamy texture, depth and freshness. In a subsequent bottled review, Allen Meadows classified it as Outstanding, noting increased accessibility and emerging complexity. Together, these assessments describe an inviting village Burgundy with substantial texture and an appealing combination of richness and freshness.
