The 2018 San Polo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is an elegant expression of 100% Sangiovese from the historic vineyards of Montalcino. Grown at 450 metres above sea level on calcium- and clay-rich soils, the wine is fermented in concrete before maturing for 30 months in large oak casks and additional bottle ageing. The nose is beautifully complex with aromas of violet, wild cherry and red berries, layered with underbrush, aromatic herbs, vanilla, coffee and subtle balsamic notes.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet refined, offering flavours of ripe cherry, blackcurrant and red plum alongside hints of tobacco, liquorice, iron and earthy spice. Fine, well-defined tannins and vibrant acidity provide structure and balance, while the long, savoury finish reflects the character of this classic Brunello. Although already showing impressive harmony, the wine will continue to evolve beautifully over the next 15–20 years.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding choice for collectors and lovers of traditional Tuscan reds seeking complexity, elegance and exceptional ageing potential. Pair it with slow-braised beef, Bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar ragu, roast lamb, truffle dishes or aged Pecorino Toscano. Decant for at least an hour before serving to reveal its layered aromas and enjoy now, or cellar confidently as it continues to develop remarkable depth and finesse.
