The 2018 Champagne A. Margaine Special Club Blanc de Blancs is the estate’s prestige cuvée and one of the finest expressions of Villers-Marmery’s unique Chardonnay terroir. As a member of the prestigious Club Trésors de Champagne, A. Margaine may only release a Special Club wine when it meets the organisation’s rigorous quality standards. Produced from 100% Premier Cru Chardonnay sourced from select parcels in Villers-Marmery, the 2018 spent approximately 66 months on lees before disgorgement, delivering exceptional depth, complexity and precision.
The nose is beautifully complex, revealing lemon zest, white peach and green pear layered with white flowers, toasted brioche, hazelnut and crushed chalk. The palate is elegant yet powerful, with a fine, persistent mousse, vibrant acidity and a striking mineral backbone. Notes of citrus, orchard fruit and subtle pastry richness unfold across a long, saline finish. The warm and generous 2018 vintage has produced a Champagne of both concentration and freshness, and recent reviews have praised its balance, texture and ageing potential.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A superb grower Champagne that showcases the precision and elegance of Chardonnay from one of Champagne’s most distinctive villages. Complex, mineral and wonderfully refined, it pairs beautifully with oysters, scallops, lobster, sashimi, caviar and fine seafood dishes. Drinking beautifully now, but with its extended lees ageing and exceptional structure, it will continue to evolve gracefully through 2038–2045 and beyond.
