The 2018 Cavallotto Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is one of Piedmont’s great traditional Barolos and a flagship wine from the historic Cavallotto estate in Castiglione Falletto. Made from organically farmed Nebbiolo and aged for around five years in large Slavonian oak casks before extended bottle ageing, it combines immense structure, complexity and longevity with remarkable elegance. The 2018 vintage is powerful yet refined, earning scores up to 97 points from Falstaff.
The nose reveals dried rose, black cherry, raspberry, truffle, spice and licorice, while the palate is deep and tightly structured with layers of red berries, plum, tobacco, orange peel and earthy mineral notes. Firm but polished tannins and vibrant acidity drive a long, savoury finish with exceptional ageing potential.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A magnificent traditional Barolo Riserva with serious depth, complexity and cellaring potential. Perfect with braised beef, truffle pasta, venison, osso buco or aged Parmigiano Reggiano. Decant if drinking young, or cellar confidently through 2045+ as it develops even greater savoury complexity and finesse.
