The 2018 Château Bernadotte Haut-Médoc is a classic Cru Bourgeois Supérieur from the left bank of Bordeaux, produced from a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a small proportion of Petit Verdot. Situated in Saint-Sauveur near Pauillac, Château Bernadotte has built a strong reputation for delivering traditional Médoc character at outstanding value, and the excellent 2018 vintage brought exceptional ripeness, concentration and structure to the wine.
The nose reveals blackcurrant, blackberry and plum layered with cedar, tobacco, cocoa and subtle spice. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is rich and balanced, combining ripe dark fruit with polished tannins and classic Haut-Médoc freshness. Wine Enthusiast awarded the wine 90 points, while Falstaff scored it 92 points, praising its elegance, ripe fruit and ageing potential.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A superb value Bordeaux that offers all the hallmarks of traditional Left Bank Cabernet without the price tag of its famous neighbours. Structured yet approachable, it pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef fillet, slow-cooked short ribs and aged hard cheeses. Drinking well now with a decant, but it has the balance and structure to evolve gracefully through 2035 and beyond.
