The 2016 Albert Mann Pinot Noir Grand P is one of the estate’s most celebrated Pinot Noirs, sourced from the Grand Cru Pfersigberg vineyard in Alsace. Farmed biodynamically by the Barthelmé family, the wine comes from limestone-rich soils and is matured in Burgundian oak barrels, showcasing the remarkable potential of Alsatian Pinot Noir. Domaine Albert Mann is widely regarded as one of the region’s benchmark producers, and Grand P stands among its most sought-after red wines.
The nose reveals red cherry, wild strawberry, rose petal and sweet spice, with subtle earthy and mineral notes. The palate is elegant yet concentrated, combining vibrant red fruit with silky tannins, bright acidity and a distinctive limestone-driven freshness. James Suckling awarded the wine 95 points, while Wine Advocate scored it 92 points, praising its perfume, precision and ageing potential.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A superb cool-climate Pinot Noir that beautifully bridges the gap between Burgundy and Alsace. Refined, mineral and exceptionally food-friendly, it pairs wonderfully with duck, roast quail, pork loin, mushroom dishes and game birds. Drinking beautifully now, but it has the balance and structure to continue evolving through 2035 and beyond.
