The 2013 Clarendon Hills Domaine Clarendon Syrah is a powerful yet refined McLaren Vale Syrah from the elevated Clarendon district. The dry-grown vineyard sits around 315 metres above sea level on extremely rocky soils, producing a deeply coloured wine with aromas of blackberry, black cherry and liquorice alongside dark chocolate, savoury meat and spice.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, with layers of dark fruit, liquorice and earthy spice supported by firm yet velvety tannins. With more than a decade of bottle age, the 2013 is now entering a mature drinking phase while retaining impressive structure and length.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for those who enjoy mature Australian Syrah with dark fruit, savoury complexity and firm structure. Drinking well now, with careful cellaring possible through approximately 2028. Ideal with grilled steak, slow-cooked beef, roast lamb, venison or mushroom dishes.
