The 2011 Château La Fleur de Boüard is a beautifully mature Lalande-de-Pomerol from one of the Right Bank’s most highly regarded estates. Founded by Hubert de Boüard of Château Angélus fame, La Fleur de Boüard helped redefine the quality potential of Lalande-de-Pomerol through meticulous vineyard management and modern winemaking. After more than a decade of bottle age, the 2011 vintage is showing impressive complexity and refinement, while retaining the structure and freshness needed for continued development.
The nose reveals black plum, dried cherry and cassis alongside notes of cedar, tobacco leaf and earthy spice. The palate is supple and harmonious, with mature dark fruit flavours supported by silky tannins and balanced acidity. Layers of leather, truffle, graphite and savoury herbs emerge with time in the glass, leading to a long, elegant finish that reflects the wine’s maturity and pedigree. The Merlot-dominant blend offers both richness and finesse, with beautifully integrated tertiary character.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A wonderfully mature Bordeaux that is drinking beautifully today. Complex, savoury and highly food-friendly, it pairs perfectly with roast lamb, beef fillet, duck confit, mushroom dishes and aged hard cheeses. Decant for 30–60 minutes before serving to allow its mature aromas and flavours to fully unfold.
