The 2010 Château Branaire-Ducru is a superb Fourth Growth from Saint-Julien and one of the standout successes of Bordeaux’s legendary 2010 vintage. Situated between Beychevelle and Ducru-Beaucaillou, the estate is renowned for producing wines that combine the structure and longevity of the Médoc with an uncommon level of elegance and finesse. The 2010 blend, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, benefited from near-perfect growing conditions, resulting in a wine of remarkable concentration, precision and ageing potential.

The nose is intensely complex, revealing blackcurrant, cassis and blackberry layered with cedar, cigar box, graphite and subtle notes of violet and spice. Full-bodied yet beautifully poised, the palate combines powerful dark fruit with refined tannins, vibrant acidity and exceptional balance. James Suckling awarded the wine 97 points, while Neal Martin scored it 96 points, praising its purity, structure and extraordinary potential for long-term cellaring. Now entering a magnificent stage of maturity, it continues to evolve with grace and complexity.

Ben’s Recommendation:
A classic Saint-Julien that perfectly illustrates why 2010 is considered one of Bordeaux’s greatest modern vintages. Powerful yet refined, it pairs beautifully with beef fillet, roast lamb, venison, truffle dishes and aged hard cheeses. Decant for at least an hour before serving. Drinking superbly now, but it has the structure and balance to continue evolving through 2045 and beyond.
