The 2000 Pierre de Segonzac Cognac RARE is a mature Grande Champagne Cognac crafted from 100% Ugni Blanc and produced entirely by the Ferrand family on their small estate in Segonzac, the heart of Cognac’s premier cru region. Aged extensively in French oak and bottled as a rare vintage expression, it showcases the elegance, depth and complexity that make Grande Champagne the most highly regarded of Cognac’s growing areas. Produced in limited quantities using traditional methods, it is a Cognac of exceptional character and refinement.
The nose reveals honey, marzipan and toasted almond aromas layered with dried apricot, black tea and gentle oak spice. The palate is silky and beautifully textured, with notes of dried fruits, roasted nuts and subtle rancio character supported by remarkable balance and finesse. Rich yet elegant, it finishes long and warming with lingering notes of honey, spice and mature oak.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A beautifully mature and sophisticated Cognac that highlights the finesse of Grande Champagne terroir. Perfect as an after-dinner digestif or paired with dark chocolate, crème brûlée, roasted nuts or a fine cigar. Serve neat in a tulip-shaped glass and allow time for the aromas to evolve in the glass. Drinking superbly now, with the depth and complexity to provide enjoyment for many years to come.
