The 2019 Lucien Le Moine Meursault Premier Cru Porusot is a powerful and highly distinctive 100% Chardonnay from one of Meursault's important Premier Cru vineyards in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune. Porusot - also commonly written Poruzot - is known for producing broad, concentrated Meursault with considerable texture while retaining the mineral structure necessary for long ageing. Lucien Le Moine itself is the tiny négociant-éleveur founded by Mounir Saouma and Rotem Brakin in 1999, specialising almost exclusively in Premier and Grand Cru Burgundy. Their philosophy is deliberately artisanal: tiny quantities, extremely long élevage and an emphasis on allowing each individual terroir to develop slowly rather than forcing the wines into a uniform house style.
The wine is now beginning to reveal the complexity that was hidden behind its formidable youthful structure. Expect lemon, ripe peach and citrus moving towards preserved lemon, hazelnut, brioche, butter and more savoury notes as it develops, with Porusot's underlying mineral and saline character providing balance to the richness. Wine Spectator awarded an outstanding 95 Points, describing a wine that builds from floral and lemon aromatics towards peach and mineral flavours, with a creamy texture followed by precise saline minerality and impressive length. Wine Spectator gives a drinking window through 2032. Interestingly, Lucien Le Moine's own website now lists this 2019 Porusot among its highlighted 2019 releases, confirming the same 95-point rating.
