The 2019 is an outstanding expression of this Premier Cru, combining citrus oil, green apple, white pepper and subtle anise with iodine, wet stone and classical Chablis chalkiness. Around 40–50% of the wine was fermented in older French oak, with the remainder in stainless steel, followed by approximately 13–14 months of élevage. Despite the concentration of the vintage, the palate remains taut, saline and mineral rather than heavy. Critical recognition was excellent: 93–95 Points and Five Stars from Jasper Morris MW, 94 Points James Suckling, 92+ Points Wine Advocate and 90–92 Points Burghound. William Kelley of Wine Advocate considered the 2019s potentially the finest vintage he had tasted at William Fèvre, describing this Montmains as unusually deep and structured with incisive acidity and chalky grip.
