The 2025 Dönnhoff Nahe Riesling is a beautifully precise and refreshing expression of Riesling from one of the Nahe’s most respected estates. Produced from 100% Riesling grown in the steep vineyards surrounding Oberhausen, the wine reflects the diverse mineral soils of the middle Nahe, including porphyry, melaphyr, slate and quartzite. The 2025 vintage has produced a particularly clear and vibrant style, combining ripe fruit with lively acidity, cool mineral character and excellent overall balance. Fermentation and maturation in stainless steel and large oak vessels preserve the purity of the fruit while adding subtle texture and complexity.
The nose is bright and expressive, revealing aromas of green apple, white peach, lime zest and fresh citrus, layered with delicate white flowers, fresh herbs and subtle mineral notes. As the wine opens, hints of grapefruit, wet stone and gentle saline character emerge, giving the aromatics an attractive sense of freshness and precision. The fruit is pure and lifted rather than overtly sweet, with the cool mineral character of the Nahe providing an elegant counterpoint.
On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied, vibrant and beautifully focused, with flavours of green apple, white peach, lemon and citrus supported by lively, well-integrated acidity. The palate is crisp and energetic without becoming sharp, with a subtle mineral and saline character adding depth and persistence. The combination of ripe fruit, refreshing acidity and fine mineral structure gives the wine excellent balance and drinkability. The finish is clean, cool and precise, with lingering citrus, white peach, crushed stone and delicate herbal notes. Falstaff awarded the 2025 vintage 92 points, highlighting its lime zest, slate, herbs, mineral concentration, taut structure and impressive freshness.
