2018 G.D. Vajra Barolo Luigi Baudana is a beautifully expressive single-vineyard Barolo from the Baudana cru in Serralunga d’Alba, one of the most structured communes of the Barolo appellation. Since 2009 the Vajra family has managed the historic Luigi Baudana estate, preserving its traditional approach while highlighting the vineyard’s distinctive Nebbiolo character.
The 2018 vintage showcases a more elegant and approachable style of Barolo, emphasizing perfume, finesse and balance rather than sheer power. In the glass it reveals aromas of rose petals, wild strawberry, cherry and crushed flowers, layered with hints of licorice, tobacco and earthy spice. The palate is vibrant and structured, featuring red cherry, plum and subtle mineral notes framed by fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins typical of Serralunga wines.
Medium-to-full bodied with impressive depth, the wine finishes long and savoury, showing the classic Barolo combination of fruit intensity, floral perfume and firm tannic backbone. While approachable with decanting, it will continue to evolve gracefully in the cellar for many years.
