The 2022 Catena Zapata Birth of Cabernet is a powerful yet refined Argentine Cabernet blend from Mendoza, crafted as a tribute to the historic origins of Cabernet Sauvignon. Composed of approximately 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, the wine comes from high-altitude vineyards including La Piramide in Agrelo, delivering remarkable concentration and structure.
On the nose, it reveals cigar box, tobacco, dark olive, and truffle aromas layered with ripe blackcurrant and blackberry fruit. The palate is full-bodied and structured, showing dense yet polished tannins, savoury spice, and subtle cedar from extended oak ageing. Aged for 18–24 months in French oak, it finishes long, complex, and beautifully balanced with fresh acidity and mineral depth.
Produced under the guidance of winemaker Alejandro Vigil, this wine reflects Catena Zapata’s pioneering work with high-altitude vineyards in Mendoza, combining New World richness with Old World Cabernet elegance.
