The Stanton & Killeen Rare Topaque NV is the pinnacle of the Rutherglen Topaque classification, crafted from the estate’s oldest and finest Muscadelle stocks with an average age of around 25 years, including components dating back to the 1970s. Produced by one of Australia’s most iconic fortified wine houses, it is matured through the traditional solera system, creating extraordinary depth, complexity and balance. Bottled in a 375ml format, this is one of the world’s great fortified wines and a benchmark for the style.
The nose is intensely aromatic, revealing coffee bean, malt, butterscotch and toffee layered with dried apricot, raisin, orange peel and roasted nuts. The palate is luxuriously rich and silky, with remarkable concentration of caramel, espresso, dark chocolate and dried fruit balanced by freshness and vibrant spirit integration. Exceptionally complex and lingering, it finishes with extraordinary length, showcasing layers of rancio, spice and toasted nuts.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A truly world-class fortified wine and one of Australia's finest dessert wines. Savour it slowly on its own, or pair with premium dark chocolate, sticky date pudding, crème brûlée, roasted nuts or rich blue cheeses. Serve lightly chilled or at cellar temperature. Drinking magnificently now, this wine will continue to reward careful enjoyment for decades after bottling and many months after opening when stored correctly.
