The 2023 Rusden Black Guts Shiraz is a powerful yet beautifully balanced Barossa Valley Shiraz from the deep sandy soils of Vine Vale. Produced using a minimalist winemaking approach, it showcases the purity and intensity of old-vine fruit in a compact half-bottle format that's perfect for sharing or enjoying on special occasions. The nose is intensely aromatic with violet, graphite, liquor-soaked berries, aniseed and warm baking spice.
On the palate, it is full-bodied with concentrated dark fruit, fine-grained tannins and vibrant natural acidity. Layers of dark cherry, blackberry and plum are complemented by hints of mocha, dark chocolate and subtle oak, leading to a long, structured finish with impressive depth and elegance. The 2021 vintage is already drinking beautifully but has the balance and structure to evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding choice for customers who enjoy rich, old-vine Barossa Shiraz with depth, complexity and excellent ageing potential. Pair it with slow-braised beef cheeks, grilled rib-eye, roast lamb shoulder, game meats or aged hard cheeses. Decant for around an hour before serving and enjoy now, or cellar confidently over the next decade. The 375ml format is ideal for an intimate dinner or when you want to enjoy a premium Shiraz without opening a full bottle.
