2019 Buscemi Tartaraci Rosso is a distinctive volcanic red from the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. Produced by Buscemi, this wine comes from a tiny 1.5-hectare vineyard planted with nearly 90-year-old bush vines at around 980 metres altitude, giving the wine remarkable freshness, perfume and minerality.
The wine is a traditional field blend of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and around 30% Granaccia (Grenache), fermented together and matured in cement to preserve the purity of fruit and volcanic character.
Aromatically it shows red cherry, wild raspberry and dried flowers, alongside subtle notes of hazelnut, spice and volcanic earth. The palate is elegant and textural, combining bright red fruit with mineral freshness and fine dusty tannins that give the wine structure without heaviness.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, Etna reds are some of the most exciting wines we recommend to customers looking for something with Burgundy-like elegance but with Mediterranean character. The 2019 Buscemi Tartaraci Rosso is a beautiful example - perfumed, mineral and incredibly expressive. It pairs wonderfully with roast lamb, grilled meats, mushroom dishes and aged cheeses, and is a great bottle for adventurous Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo lovers.
