HERMITAGE
Hermitage is one of the most prestigious and historic appellations in the Northern Rhône Valley, France, renowned for producing some of the world’s greatest Syrah-based wines. Located on a steep, south-facing granite hill above the town of Tain-l’Hermitage, the region is small in size but immense in reputation.
Hermitage wines are made primarily from Syrah for reds, while whites are produced from Marsanne and Roussanne. The combination of granite soils, steep slopes and optimal sun exposure allows grapes to achieve full ripeness while maintaining structure and complexity.
Red Hermitage is known for its power, depth and ageing potential, showing flavours of blackberry, plum, black pepper, smoked meat and spice, often developing notes of leather, truffle and earth with age. These wines are typically full-bodied with firm tannins and can age for decades.
White Hermitage, though produced in smaller quantities, is equally prestigious, offering rich, textured wines with flavours of stone fruit, honey, nuts and floral notes, also capable of long ageing.
