GRAMPIANS
Grampians is a historic wine region located in Victoria, Australia, at the foothills of the Grampians (Gariwerd) mountain range. With a winemaking history dating back to the 19th century, the region is best known for producing some of Australia’s most distinctive and age-worthy Shiraz.
The Grampians region benefits from a cool to moderate climate, influenced by its altitude and proximity to the mountains. This allows for a long, slow ripening period, helping grapes retain natural acidity while developing intense flavour and structure.
Grampians Shiraz is particularly celebrated for its peppery spice, dark berry fruit and firm tannins, often showing notes of blackberry, plum, black pepper and earthy complexity. These wines are typically medium to full-bodied with excellent ageing potential, offering a more savoury and structured style compared to warmer-climate Shiraz regions.
In addition to Shiraz, the region also produces quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling, known for their balance and aromatic clarity.
