The 2023 Marc-Antonin Blain Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru “Champs-Gains” Blanc is a finely detailed white Burgundy from one of Chassagne-Montrachet’s most promising new-generation producers. Marc-Antonin Blain, descended from the renowned Blain-Gagnard family, focuses on low-intervention winemaking and terroir transparency, producing small-production wines that are rapidly gaining attention among Burgundy collectors.

Les Champs-Gains is a high-altitude Premier Cru vineyard positioned above the main Chassagne slope on stony limestone soils, a site particularly known for producing wines with freshness, minerality and finesse rather than overt richness. The 2023 vintage delivered ripe yet balanced fruit with excellent natural acidity, giving the wine both early appeal and strong cellar potential.

The nose is refined and mineral-driven, showing lemon zest, white peach and pear layered with crushed stone, flinty reduction and delicate oak spice. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with vibrant acidity and a beautifully focused structure. Citrus, orchard fruit and saline mineral notes are supported by chalky tension and subtle lees texture, leading to a long, precise and energetic finish. Compared to broader southern Chassagne styles, Champs-Gains leans more toward elegance and linearity, often showing a profile closer to Puligny-Montrachet in its refinement and mineral expression.

Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a fantastic “insider Premier Cru Burgundy” for customers looking to discover emerging producers before wider market recognition arrives. Compared to richer Meursault styles, it’s more mineral, saline and tension-driven; compared to Puligny-Montrachet, it offers slightly more texture while retaining superb precision. Marc-Antonin Blain’s wines are increasingly sought after because they combine classical Chassagne character with a modern sense of restraint and purity. The 2023 vintage is especially attractive because it balances freshness, energy and approachability beautifully. Drink from 2027 onwards or with extended decanting now, and cellar for 10–15+ years. Perfect with lobster, scallops, turbot or refined French cuisine.
