The 2024 Saint-Damien Plan de Dieu Vieilles Vignes is a standout Southern Rhône red, crafted from old-vine Grenache (around 80%) with Mourvèdre, grown on red clay and alluvial soils in the Plan de Dieu subregion. It reflects a classic, terroir-driven Rhône style with a focus on purity, balance and value, often described as a “mini Gigondas” in character.

The nose shows black cherry, plum and raspberry, layered with peppery herbs, garrigue, floral notes and subtle spice. There is a lifted aromatic profile with both red and dark fruit, combined with a savoury Mediterranean edge.

On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a supple, textured mouthfeel and ripe tannins. Juicy dark fruit, spice and mineral notes are balanced by freshness, leading to a long, smooth and gently savoury finish. The style is rounded and layered, offering both immediate drinkability and enough structure to age over the short to medium term.

Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is one of the best “value Rhône blends” we position — essentially a baby Gigondas at a much more accessible price point. It’s perfect for customers who enjoy GSM blends or Rhône wines but want something more approachable and everyday-friendly. Compared to heavier styles, this is about balance, spice and drinkability. Drink now or over the next 5–8 years. Perfect with lamb, grilled meats, Mediterranean dishes or casual dining.
