The 2020 Armand Heitz Meursault Gruyaches is a distinctive single-vineyard Chardonnay from Meursault in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, produced from the village-level lieu-dit Les Gruyaches. Armand Heitz chooses to bottle Gruyaches separately rather than blending it into a generic Meursault, reflecting his focus on expressing the individual identity of each vineyard. The domaine's approach centres on agroecology and regenerative farming, while cellar work is deliberately restrained to allow terroir to remain at the forefront. The warm and concentrated 2020 Burgundy vintage gives the wine impressive ripeness and texture, while Meursault's natural mineral character provides freshness and balance. The domaine continues to bottle Meursault Gruyaches as one of its principal lieu-dit wines alongside La Barre and Vireuils.
Made from 100% Chardonnay, the 2020 reflects Armand Heitz's low-intervention white-wine philosophy. Grapes are harvested when sugar, acidity and physiological maturity reach balance, pressed carefully and transferred to barrel during alcoholic fermentation, with relatively high levels of solids retained to encourage greater intensity and complexity. The wine shows ripe pear, yellow apple and white peach alongside lemon, white flowers, hazelnut and subtle buttery and savoury notes. The palate is broad and textural in classic Meursault fashion, with the concentration of 2020 balanced by citrus freshness and a mineral, gently saline finish.
