L’Enclos de Maucamps is the second wine of Château Maucamps, from vineyards adjacent to the château, just a few km from Margaux and less than 2km from the left bank of the Garonne river. The small estate is HVE (high environmental value) level 3, the highest level of sustainable agriculture in France.
This is a 70/30 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aged for around 12 months in used oak barrels. Medium bodied and cherry red to garnet in colour, the nose shows classic claret aromas, blueberries, violets, leather and aged cedar wood notes, with smoky and herbaceous undertones. Tight knit and dry with chalky tannins, red cherries, cranberry and plum fruit dominates the open, with great minerality and a clean, polished finish. This is very classy, a proper claret at a very accessible price point.
