The 2016 Loosen Barry Wolta Wolta Riesling is the inaugural vintage of this Clare Valley collaboration between Jim Barry Wines and renowned Mosel producer Dr. Loosen. Made from single-vineyard Riesling grown at Lodge Hill, it shows lemon balm, white peach and orange oil with candied lime, pear, gentle spice and subtle savoury development.
On the palate, it remains remarkably fresh and precise, with vibrant acidity supporting citrus, stone fruit and delicate honeyed notes. Around 24 months of maturation on lees in a large German oak fuder gives the wine a creamy, cashew-like texture, balanced by wet-stone minerality and a long, dry finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a fascinating Museum Release for Riesling drinkers interested in mature, cellar-worthy Clare Valley wines. Released for the first time in 2026 after a decade of ageing, it is drinking beautifully now while retaining potential for further development. Pair with grilled snapper, roast pork, seafood, roast chicken or aged cheeses.
