The 2015 Yeringberg Cabernets Museum Release is a beautifully mature expression of one of the Yarra Valley’s most historic and revered red wines. Yeringberg has been in the de Pury family for more than 160 years, and its Cabernet blend has been produced since 1974, evolving into a classic Bordeaux-inspired blend that reflects the cool climate and distinctive character of the Yarra Valley. The 2015 vintage combines 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec, creating a wine of remarkable elegance, depth and longevity.
The nose is beautifully complex and increasingly mature, revealing cassis, blackcurrant, blood plum, boysenberry and violet, layered with bay leaf, dried herbs and subtle menthol. As the wine opens, more developed notes of cigar box, graphite, cedar, tapenade, clove and Christmas cake emerge, with delicate tobacco and earthy spice adding further depth. There is a wonderful sense of restraint and refinement to the aromatics, with ripe dark fruit balanced by the cool leafy and savoury character that is so distinctive of Yeringberg.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, elegant and beautifully structured, with layers of blackcurrant, dark cherry, plum and blueberry supported by vibrant acidity and exceptionally fine tannins. The fruit has impressive depth and concentration without becoming heavy, while notes of cedar, liquorice, tobacco, bay leaf and subtle earthy spice add complexity through the mid-palate. The tannins are remarkably polished and seamless, giving the wine a silky texture and excellent definition. The finish is long, savoury and persistent, with lingering blackcurrant, graphite, cedar, dried herbs and gentle spice. The 2015 has developed beautifully with bottle age, while retaining the freshness and structure that give it considerable longevity.
