A serious single-vineyard Nebbiolo from Pat Underwood’s flagship label, sourced from the renowned Chalmers Vineyard in Colbinabbin. Built from multiple Nebbiolo clones and inspired by the wines of northern Piemonte, the 2023 release combines perfume, structure and savoury mineral depth with remarkable finesse.The nose shows rose petal, red cherry and blood orange alongside dried herbs, musk, spice and earthy mineral notes. There’s a lifted floral perfume and fine savoury complexity that feels distinctly Nebbiolo while still expressing the iron-rich Central Victorian soils.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with bright acidity, finely structured tannins and vibrant red fruit carrying through a long savoury finish. Tense, detailed and highly aromatic, with the classic Nebbiolo combination of elegance, grip and freshness.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A beautifully refined modern Australian Nebbiolo - more Piemonte-inspired than many local examples, with excellent perfume, structure and ageing potential. Serious but still highly drinkable, especially with food. Perfect with mushroom dishes, ragù, truffle pasta or slow-cooked meats. Drink now with decanting or cellar through 2038+.
