The 2023 Black Estate Damsteep Pinot Noir is a distinctive single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Waipara Valley in North Canterbury. Grown on the steep slopes of the Damsteep Vineyard over clay, fractured limestone and sandstone, it shows raspberry, black cherry and plum alongside violets, subtle earth, savoury spice and mineral notes.
On the palate, it is dry, taut and finely structured, with vibrant acidity and firm, precise tannins supporting concentrated red and dark fruit. Floral notes and savoury spice add complexity, while subtle barrel influence contributes texture without overwhelming the fruit. The finish is long, fresh and mineral-driven.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Pinot Noir drinkers who enjoy elegant, structured reds with bright fruit, vibrant acidity and savoury mineral complexity. Enjoy now or cellar for further development. Ideal with roast duck, lamb, pork, mushroom dishes, roast chicken or semi-hard cheeses.
