2022 Catalina Sounds “Sound of White” Chardonnay comes from Marlborough and is produced by Catalina Sounds from their estate vineyard in the Waihopai Valley. This single-vineyard Chardonnay focuses on purity of fruit and site expression, using wild fermentation and extended lees ageing to build texture and complexity.
The wine shows layered aromas of stone fruit, citrus and baking spices, with subtle hints of hazelnut, vanilla and chalky minerality. The palate is elegant and textured, combining creamy mid-palate richness with vibrant acidity and a long, poised finish. The wine spends around 11 months on lees in large French oak puncheons, adding depth while maintaining freshness and balance.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, we often recommend Marlborough Chardonnay for customers who enjoy a balance between fresh fruit and subtle oak complexity. The 2022 Catalina Sounds “Sound of White” is a fantastic example — elegant, layered and beautifully textured without being heavy. It pairs perfectly with grilled seafood, roast chicken, creamy pasta or hard cheeses, and can also develop additional complexity with a few years of cellaring.
