The 2015 Marc Brédif Vouvray Grande Année Museum Release is a magnificent mature Chenin Blanc from one of the Loire Valley’s most historic and respected producers. Founded in 1893, Domaine Marc Brédif has long been recognised as a benchmark for age-worthy Vouvray, with extensive underground limestone cellars allowing wines to mature slowly before release. The Grande Année is the estate’s off-dry (demi-sec) cuvée, traditionally held back for around 10 years before release as a museum wine, allowing its youthful citrus fruit to evolve into remarkable complexity while retaining the vibrant acidity that defines great Vouvray. The warm, dry 2015 vintage produced wines of exceptional ripeness, concentration and longevity, making it one of the finest Vouvray vintages of the decade.

The nose is beautifully evolved and intensely aromatic, revealing aromas of ripe apricot, baked pear and yellow peach layered with acacia honey, quince and preserved lemon. As the wine opens, notes of lanolin, beeswax and dried chamomile emerge, complemented by hints of toasted almond, baked apple and delicate spice. With nearly a decade of bottle age, subtle nuances of calvados, dried citrus peel and wet limestone develop, creating an aromatic profile of remarkable depth while preserving exceptional freshness. Mature Marc Brédif Vouvray is renowned for developing honeyed, waxy complexity without losing its signature mineral precision.

On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a luxuriously silky texture and beautifully integrated sweetness. Layers of apricot, quince, baked apple and citrus marmalade unfold effortlessly across the palate, supported by vibrant natural acidity that keeps the wine fresh, focused and wonderfully balanced. The off-dry style offers richness without heaviness, while the limestone soils of Vouvray provide a chalky mineral backbone that carries through to an exceptionally long and elegant finish. Lingering notes of honey, preserved citrus, orchard fruits and wet stone create a wine that is simultaneously generous and refined. The style is graceful, mature and timeless, illustrating why Vouvray is considered one of the world's greatest age-worthy white wines.

Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is one of the Loire Valley’s hidden treasures and a superb opportunity to experience a professionally cellared mature Vouvray. Compared to the Classic Vouvray Museum Release, the Grande Année offers greater concentration, a touch more residual sweetness and significantly more complexity while still retaining remarkable freshness. Compared to Sauternes, it is lighter, more mineral and driven by Chenin Blanc’s vibrant acidity, making it incredibly versatile at the table. Now entering its ideal drinking window, it will continue to evolve gracefully for another 15–20 years. Drink now or cellar confidently through to 2040 and beyond. Perfect with foie gras, roast pork, lobster in beurre blanc, blue cheeses, tarte tatin, spicy Asian cuisine or simply enjoyed on its own as one of the Loire Valley’s most elegant mature white wines.
