MAIPO VALLEY
Maipo Valley is one of Chile’s most historic and prestigious wine regions, located just south of Santiago. Often referred to as the “Bordeaux of South America,” it is internationally renowned for producing high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon with structure, balance, and aging potential.
The region benefits from a Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool nights, influenced by the nearby Andes Mountains. This climate allows grapes to ripen fully while retaining freshness and acidity. The alluvial soils, combined with mountain influence, contribute to wines with depth, complexity, and refined tannins.
Maipo Valley is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon, producing wines with classic notes of blackcurrant, cassis, cedar, and spice. These wines often show a balance between richness and elegance, making them suitable for both early drinking and long-term cellaring. Other varietals such as Merlot and Syrah are also grown in the region.
As a benchmark region in Chile, Maipo Valley offers premium wines that combine Old World structure with New World fruit expression, appealing to both collectors and everyday wine drinkers.
