The 2020 Le Macchiole Scrio is one of Italy’s most celebrated Syrahs and a landmark wine in the story of modern Tuscan viticulture. Produced from a tiny estate vineyard in Bolgheri, Scrio was among the first wines to demonstrate the extraordinary potential of Syrah on Tuscany’s coastal soils. Crafted from low-yielding vines and produced only in limited quantities, the wine combines the power and richness of the New World with the savoury complexity and elegance of the finest Northern Rhône Syrahs. The outstanding 2020 vintage delivered exceptional concentration, balance and ageing potential.
The nose is intensely aromatic, revealing blackberry, blueberry and black plum alongside notes of cracked black pepper, violet and smoked meat. The palate is full-bodied and beautifully structured, with layers of dark fruit supported by velvety tannins and vibrant acidity. Hints of liquorice, graphite, olive tapenade and exotic spice add remarkable depth and complexity, while the finish is long, powerful and seamlessly integrated. Despite its intensity, the wine retains freshness, precision and extraordinary finesse.

A world-class Syrah and one of the finest examples of the variety produced outside France. Powerful, complex and exceptionally age-worthy, it pairs beautifully with slow-roasted lamb, venison, beef rib, game dishes and truffle-infused cuisine. Decant for at least an hour if drinking now, or cellar through 2045–2055 as it develops extraordinary savoury complexity, spice and refinement.
