Bright mid-crimson purple in colour, the 2022 Clos des Angles opens with a pure, generous bouquet of Morello cherry, blackberry, concentrated raspberry and crushed strawberry. Wild rose, potpourri and orange rind add aromatic lift, while hints of allspice and woodland earth emerge as the wine unfolds in the glass.
The palate is medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with vibrant red and dark fruit supported by a bright mineral spine. Fine, filigree tannins give the wine elegant structure without heaviness, leading to a broad, energetic finish marked by raspberry, strawberry and peppery spice. Pure, charming and more immediately expressive than many of d’Angerville’s Premier Crus, it can be enjoyed young after aeration but has the balance to develop gracefully through the late 2030s.
