DOMAINE GREGOIRE HOPPENOT

Domaine Grégoire Hoppenot is a rising and highly regarded Beaujolais wine producer based in Fleurie, one of the ten crus of the Beaujolais region in France. The domaine was established by Grégoire Hoppenot, who after years working as a vineyard manager and négociant (including time at Maison Trénel, owned by the Chapoutier group) decided in 2018 to return to the vine and make wine under his own name.

Grégoire farms around 9–9.5 hectares of vineyards across some of the best lieux-dits in Fleurie (like Les Garants, Les Moriers, La Roilette, Poncié and Les Roches), and also leases a small plot in Morgon. The soils are predominantly granite and sand, typical of high-quality Fleurie sites, which contribute freshness, precision and a floral character to the wines.

Viticulture at the domaine is organic or in the process of organic conversion, and in the cellar Grégoire follows an intuitive, low-intervention approach: grapes are hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and vinified gently with minimal sulphur additions and very careful extraction. This philosophy aims to let the terroir and vintage express themselves naturally in the finished wine.

Domaine Grégoire Hoppenot produces a range of Cru Beaujolais wines, primarily from Gamay. Key examples include the approachable yet expressive Fleurie “Origines” and “Indigène” bottlings, as well as single-site cuvées like Fleurie Clos de l’Amandier and Fleurie Les Moriers. The wines are generally noted for their bright red fruit, floral aromatics, elegant texture and fine structure, with a style that resonates with both classic Fleurie character and contemporary natural winemaking trends.

Grégoire’s work has attracted critical attention — he was named a “Discovery of the Year” by La Revue du Vin de France soon after founding the domaine, and early vintages like the 2018 Fleurie Origines have garnered high praise from critics.
