The 2023 Domaine des Roches Neuves Saumur-Champigny is a vibrant and refined Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley, crafted by Thierry Germain, one of Saumur’s most respected biodynamic growers. Produced from 100% Cabernet Franc sourced from parcels around Varrains, Chaintres, Dampierre and Saumur, the vines grow predominantly on the region’s distinctive tuffeau limestone soils. The wine opens with expressive aromas of dark cherry, cassis and fresh red berries, layered with violet, anise, subtle herbs and fine graphite-like mineral notes.
On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied, juicy and beautifully energetic, with pure red and dark fruit supported by fresh acidity and supple, finely textured tannins. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, with maturation primarily in tank to preserve freshness and fruit purity. Floral and savoury notes combine with the distinctive chalky minerality of Saumur-Champigny, leading to an elegant, mouthwatering and refreshing finish.
